The fundamental retreat : treasure of the Foyers de Charité

To meet God, to live from God
I need a break, I am looking for quietness and interior peace. I have important choices to make. I would like to unload my burden. I would like to get new spiritual strength, to go further in my spiritual search. I would like to experience God's presence and learn how to pray. I would like to discover Christian religion, deepen the foundations of the Catholic faith, meditate the Bible.
Why not make a retreat?
To make a retreat in a Foyer de Charité is to take six days off to follow an unexpected route with several meetings : with oneself, with God and with brothers and sisters , in a Christian community. It's an experience which transforms your being and opens up new perspectives.
A meeting with oneself
The retreat is a good way to meet oneself, with our whole being, all our past life and all our hopes. It takes place in a peaceful silence which helps to listen to what dwells in us and to have a real experience of interiority.
The retreat is also a privileged time to meet a priest or a member of the community to share joys, sufferings, questions, plans, in the context of a personal accompaniment and a careful listening.
A meeting with God
The fundamental retreat is an invitation to meet Christ personally, to welcome the infinite Love of God our Father, and to accept to be renewed by the Holy Spirit. Each day, talks are given with a view to deepening the major questions that all men want to answer. Who is God ? Why does evil exist ? Did Jesus Christ rise from the dead ? Are all religions equal ? What does Trinity mean ? Why the Blessed Virgin Mary ? What happens to the dead ? Is it possible to forgive everything ? Is the Church necessary ? Does God intervene in our lives ? Is it possible to change the world ? And so on. The Light of the Gospel gives new convictions to all these questions as well as landmarks for life, taking into account all the aspects of the human person. This illumination meets everyone wherever he is. Personal and communal prayer, the reading of the Bible, and personal reflection allow one to welcome God as the Onewho comes, speaks to our hearts, reveals himself, and calls us.
A meeting with brothers and sisters
All kinds of people can attend a retreat : believers or unbelievers, married people, widowers and widows, single, divorced, priests, lay people ....
It is a personal experience but not a solitary one : retreatants and Foyer members form a fraternal community during the retreat.
In the course of the retreat, even though it is lived in silence, bonds of friendship are formed. Each retreatant feels welcome as in a family and is supported by the prayer of all the others.
A meeting which transforms your soul
The retreat is a meeting with God who makes himself closer, who gives himself totally to you. From this encounter, new paths leading to freedom and to life are opened.
